Some people in the skin care world say toners are not necessary; others say they are must have’s in a daily skin care routine. It is often better to decide whether or not a toner can be a helpful or useful product on a case by case approach.

There are different types of toners with different benefits. Several of the primary benefits of using a toner include: 1) they remove residue left behind by cleansers, 2) they restore the skin’s natural pH after cleansing, 3) they hydrate the skin, 4) they have a temporary tightening effect on both the skin and the pores, and 5) they help certain skin conditions, depending on the ingredient.

Toners can be applied to the face with a cotton pad or can be sprayed directly onto the skin.

At Zama Massage Therapeutic Spa we have several different toners that we use and recommend for different skin types and skin concerns.

Moxie Organic Rose Water Tonic - Many people think of toners as having astringent properties. This is not always true. Some types of toners can be used to hydrate the skin throughout the day. At Zama we often recommend our clients with drier skin types keep the Moxie Rose Water Tonic near them during the day – in their purse, in the car, at their desk. Anytime you feel a bit dry or tight, immediately soothe and hydrate your skin with a lightly moisturizing spritz. This type of toner can be a low maintenance, easy way to hydrate the skin without feeling heavy or oily.

ilike Organic Skincare Rosehip Toner -  As noted above some toners have more of an astringent property. This one does. This particular toner is a great option for sensitive skin that is acne prone. This toner works to reduce oil production and soothe irritated skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties and also works to tighten the skin causing pores to appear smaller.
